Connecticut Farm Bureau members have full-time representation at the state
capitol. More than 1,600 bills are introduced each session and all are
reviewed for potential impact to our member farmers.
Farm Bureau volunteer leaders maintain an active presence at the Capitol,
as well as staying in touch with their elected officials through phone
calls and letter writing. Volunteer leaders testify before committees
during legislative session demonstrating constituent involvement. When
there are critical issues before lawmakers, Connecticut Farm Bureau issues
a Legislative Alert that activates our extensive grassroots
network. Members respond by calling, writing and sending e-mails to their
legislators on specific bills.
Legislative updates are shared with members bi-weekly. Farm Bureau members
can receive the Legislative Update by e-mail, fax or mail.
The Connecticut General Assembly convenes its legislative session in
odd years on the first Wednesday of the first full week of January and
runs to the first Wednesday of the first full week of June. In even years,
the session convenes on the first Wednesday of the first full week of
February and runs to the first Wednesday of the first full week in May.
